Child Care Assistance for Parent/Guardian

BBNA Child Care Assistance eligibility is based on family size and family’s gross income. A sliding fee scale will be use and is based on the Federal Income Poverty Guidelines. Assistance can be provided for tribally enrolled Alaska Native or American Indian youth under the age of 13. (or under the age of 19 if a documented physical or mental disability is verified).

All children must be current with immunizations.

Parent/Guardian must apply for Child Care assistance using the 477-Services Application along with Child Care Authorization Form. Parents/Guardian must identify their Child Care Provider. Provider must be approved and certified BBNA provider or State of Alaska Licensed Child Care Provider.

  • BBNA has 30 days to determine eligibility upon receiving a completed application.
  • We cannot determine eligibility until we have a complete application including all required documents.
  • A completed application does not automatically mean a client is eligible for childcare assistance.

Childcare is approved from the date we receive all the necessary documents to determine your case; no childcare is approved before that date. Parents/Guardians are responsible for all of childcare expenses unless otherwise notified by BBNA.

Child Care Assistance – Provider

Child care providers serve a vital role in our Bristol Bay Communities. The provider must be 18 or older. Provider and all household members 16 years of age and older must pass a background check.

  • BBNA has 30 days to determine eligibility upon receiving a completed application.
  • We cannot determine eligibility until we have a completed application with all required documents.
  • BBNA Child Care Department requires that caregivers are in compliance with all Federal, State and Tribal licensing before authorization of payment.

BBNA Approved Non-Relative Providers

  • Provider must get a current State of Alaska Business License.
  • Provider must meet BBNA’s Health & Safety guidelines
  • Each person who provides child care for a parent or guardian receiving child care assistance from the BBNA Child Care Development Department must participate in a home visit at least once a year.
  • Child Care Assistance rates are Full Day/Part Day. Full Day= 5 hours and up, Part Day= Care up to 5 hours.
  • Assistance is limited to no more than 50 hours of child care per week, per child.

BBNA Approved Relative Providers

  • CCDF definition of relatives are; by marriage, blood relationship or court decree, include only the following: Grandparents, Great-grandparents, first generation Aunts or Uncles and Adult Siblings. (Siblings living in same home must meet all the requirements of a non-relative provider)
  • Relative Providers will be paid an hourly rate based on the age of the child(ren) in care.
  • Assistance is limited to no more than 50 hours of child care per week, per child.

If the child care provider cares for more than four (4) children, unrelated to him/her, it is necessary that the provider be licensed by the State of Alaska Child Care Program.

BBNA requires that caregivers are in compliance with all State and Tribal licensing before authorization of payment.
